Viewing Guide: Holiday Bowl Season Volume 5
Watch the Triple-Option Attack and Get an Oil, Lube & Filter Bowl (aka the “Meineke Car Care Bowl”)
Navy vs. Boston College / December 30, 1 pm / Charlotte
The Tarnished Star Bowl (aka the “Alamo Bowl”)
Texas vs. Iowa / December 30, 4:30 pm / San Antonio
Both of these teams hope to pull out a bottle of polish to make their BCS badge for next year nice and shiny. Iowa was perhaps the most disappointing team in all of college football this year. Texas was the defending champ with the impossible task of replacing VY. Both took a couple knees to the groin this year but have each other to square dance with this evening. This is one I’m looking forward to (really).
Another (Nearly) Home Game Bowl (aka the “Chick-fil-A (Peach) Bowl”)
Georgia vs. Virginia Tech / December 30, 8 pm / Atlanta
So much for the mythical “neutral” field. There should be plenty of Hokie fans on tap for this one but is it really fair that UGA only has to travel about 70 miles for this? No matter, Georgia is going to need the home-field advantage for this one. This ain’t your daddy’s Georgia team; I like the Hokies.
Winter in Frozen Over Hell Bowl (aka the “MPC Computers Bowl”)
U. of Miami vs. Nevada / December 31, 7:30 pm / Boise
Disappointing 6-6 season? Check. Losing conference record? Check. Mid-season brawl with a mid-major? Check. Fired the coach? Check. Loss to your rival? Check. Tell ‘em what they’ve won Johnny!!! An all-expenses paid trip from sunny, hot south Florida to Boise, Idaho!!! Weather.com high temp in Boise tomorrow- 37 degrees! Good luck recruiting this year, Hurricanes. Let’s listen in: “Now listen here boys, if you come to the “U”, not only will you get the pleasure of fist-fighting with a cross town pee-wee football team but you get to spend New Year’s eve in sub-freezing Boise.”
