Straight Politics Homey
Bi*par*ti*san*ship- of, relating to, or involving members of two parties; specifically, marked by or involving cooperation, agreement, and compromise between two major political parties.
From 535 total members in the House and the Senate, a grand total of 3 Republicans have cast votes in favor of the “stimulating through massive government expansion” bill that was approved in the Senate today. Folks on the left have accused and will continue to accuse Republicans of obstructionism, even “Hooverism”. And if you only watch CNN or any of the major news networks, or Obama’s fake news conference Monday night, you might agree with those sentiments. You would be wrong.
If you’re paying attention, even true Democrats (not bitter Olber-crats) would express disappointment at the first two weeks of the Obama administration, and more specifically this bill.
Part of Obama’s campaign platform was a promise of running-through-the-daisies-bipartisanship that would unite the country with determined resolve. What we’ve gotten is a bill stuffed to the gills with 20 years worth of liberal agenda items, so stuffed as to taunt the right and flaunt the super-majority that the left possesses.
Added to the bill has been the scoreboard rhetoric of “we won the election, so eat it”. There was little to no input on the house side into their version of the bill and only ceremonial input given to Republicans in the Senate. And nearly every amendment submitted in the Senate went down along strict party lines with few if any Democrats voting support of Republican amendments.
And all the while, Obama has continued his campaigning, running the Presidency as if he’s still in the race against John McCain, and throwing jabs right to the center of the Republican belly.
Admittedly, a Republican President got us to this place, albeit assisted by the Democrat majority over the last two years, and yet the very same railroading that Bush was accused of by the Democrats is the exact same behavior the Democrats are exhibiting today. And at the very worst time for that kind of retribution.
During times of crisis is when character is truly put to the test, and the true colors of the Democrat leaders are having the light of day shone on them. I can only hope voters are paying attention to what’s really going on when the 2010 elections come around.
In case I haven’t convinced you yet, here are some vignettes of Bipartisanship- Barbara Boxer-style, all from debates over the stimulus bill.
You’re welcome.
