Octo-Math
I wish this story would go away but it just isn’t. Unemployed, single mother of six turned unemployed, single octuplet mother Nadya Suleman is going to cost the taxpayers of California a hefty premium. According to reports, the hospital taking care of the octuplets has filed for Medical, California’s medicaid program. That’s bad news for a state that’s already facing $42 billion budget shortfall.
According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the average premature baby’s hospital stay in California costs $164,273. Multiply that by 8 and you get $1,314,184, the large part of which will fall to John & Julio Doe to pay.
All that on top of the $490 that Suleman is already receiving a month in food stamps and $2,400 a month in disability payments for three of the original six kids. Oh, don’t worry though, according to CBS news Suleman is planning on going to school at Cal State Fullerton for a Master’s Degree in Counseling, and she’s apparently going to use the student loan money to help pay for her children.
Worse still, the birthing vessel now has a website up with pictures of the octuplets and surprisingly enough- a donation link that even accepts credit cards. Congratulations Ms. Suleman- you’ve now become the face of the welfare problem in this country, and not a week too soon.
